Its no secret or suprise that i am a big fan of feeding racing sled dogs meat of sorts.Of course we are talking decent meat in good shape(not spoiled). That is if you have the ratio of the mix at a blend the animals do awesome on.Many people are and do feed meat combo's of sorts,beef/chicken/turkey/horse/beaver etc etc,and they are all good.I would feed many kinds of meat and any single one of them if thats all i could get.I do think bagged food(top shelf products)does play an important part in the mix as well.Hier de link naar de discussie
I have found over the decades with slight changes and adjustments that with the proper meat ratio(of sorts) you could feed any one of the top name bagged foods. You would see i feel very little difference in the dogs performances. However if you pulled or mixed up the meat portion you will see drastic results in performance. The dogs truely are 'what you feed them',and just because its from a high dollar bag with a well known name doesn't mean its 'the best'.
I dare say i don't feel there is a dog kennel going that adding one of many kinds of meat to the diet, let alone the 'right' mix will show a noticably improvement in many area's.Not saying a team can't be in good or top shape on bagged food, just saying you take that same top team eating bagged and add meat for 1 mnth and see what the results are.
Many teams are starting to claim to a degree that bagged food of sorts is 'all' they are feeding.I would like to see a team win the Irod or Onac feeding 'strait' bagged food. And yes that means 'not' adding in all the supplements that end up being fat and protien anyway. Most of these teams are getting to the finish line because of some of the certain supplements that are mostly eggs and or fat that they don't mention they are adding.
I think the biggest thing working against people feeding meat is the hassle of handling that goes with it.As well as finding a source you can trust and rely on.The fastest open dog teams in the world use meat as a major part of their diet. They also found in the greyhound world that it improved dogs performance that had only 30 seconds to run.
I'm interested to hear some pro's and con's on this and what you mushers think.Do you feed bagged food because of convienience, would you feed meat if you could trust it?Why or why not?
