Interesting study for those among us who say dogs don't need vegetation because wolves don't consume it.
This study looked at wolf stomach content and scats in the NWT from 2002 to 2013. They found caribou, moose, bison and deer in the stomachs of about half of the wolves. And vegetation was found in 15% of the wolf stomachs.
Another study of wolves in Yellowstone National Park published in the Journal of Nutrition found vegetation in summer wolf scats and the authors concluded that the amount and frequency indicated the wolves were intentionally eating the vegetation.
Vegetation, especially fruit and berries, has been shown to reduce the risk of certain cancers in dogs. They're loaded with antioxidants and feed beneficial gut bacteria. They're low glycemic foods. I can't think of many reasons to not add fruits and berries to your dog's diet.
